Concept

We belive, that developmet of cities should be rather facilitate and guide than determined, stable and not flexible.

The Solution

This is approach we tried to apply in this competition . Studying Jemulpo-gil expressway we considered surrounding quarters, existing transportation system and geographical and nature elements, character of inhabitants. We tried to solve the problem, that rises up in cities all around the world – the traffic. But is it realy the prime problem? Isn´t that just result of something else? low-dense, wide-spreading, not-hierarchized, monofunctional form of bulit-up areas. Now arise a need to reorganize this city fabric to realy sustainable form. This new form is based on walking distance, equalization of functions and public services and providing efficient public tranport system and high-quality public space.
According to analytical part of the project we tried to locate main points (nods) where should starts the transformation of Jemulpo-gill zone and where should be realized first projects. No one could forecast or prescribe exact form of further development. But we created the model, that shows how could the future evolution looks like. This model situation is just one of many possible scenarios based on gravity of certain important marked points and shortest walking and commuting distance.
To reach intended state of urban enviroment we assemble the set of codes or rules (concerning energy production, ecology, transit system, waste management etc.). These should be hold to create attractive, sustainable and self-sufficient city quarters. Important is effort to bacome independent of exhaustible sources of energy. Effort to create autonomus energy system which satisfy energy demand of all inhabitants. System which is as considerate as possible. Cities are places for people. Places where people meets their needs and demands. But also places which are inseparable part of planet enviroment and global eco-system. Let´s not forget it!
